Painting Your Home to Sell

When it comes to selling, paint is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to change the feel of a home. I recommend it to 9 out of 10 sellers I work with because a fresh coat of paint in a trendy color will update a home in an instant.

Paint color significantly affects a buyer’s first impression of your home and can highlight your home's character and personality. As they say, you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression, so it's critical to choose the right color. Buyers will perceive your home as well maintained and a blank canvas they can move into and make their own.

My current favorite wall color is Agreeable Gray (made by Sherwin Williams). I’m actually obsessed with this color! Why? It’s the perfect “greige” (gray + beige) blend that complements warm and cool tones, it photographs well and it makes a room look updated and modern. Plus it absolutely goes with everything and most important— buyers love it!

Now let’s discuss the perfect “white” color— I recommend Dove White (made by Benjamin Moore) or Cloud White (also Benjamin Moore) for trim, doors and anything else that needs to look crisp.

If you use a quality paint, I recommend a Flat Finish for walls when selling, it’s exactly like it sounds— flat. It’s not as washable as satin finish but it looks great in photos and in person.

Tips on Sheens:
Flat
 Ceilings
 Dining Rooms
 Formal Living Rooms
 Adult Bedrooms

Satin Finish
 Halls
 Baseboards
 Family Rooms
 Children’s Bedrooms

Semi-Gloss
Easy to clean, a semi-gloss paint works well in areas frequently cleaned.
 Kitchens
 Bathrooms
 Closet Doors and Cabinets
 Stair Rails and Banisters

Gloss
A high gloss paint works well for accents.
 Wood Trim
 Doors

A fresh coat of paint can make a home feel well maintained and appropriately taken care of. Fresh paint also covers up any weird smells so buyers aren’t turned off when they walk in the door. Trust me try Agreeable Gray because this small investment will pay off with better offers and more money when
you accept an offer.
